Bali Police Name Suspects in the Kidnapping of a Bulgarian National on Sunset Road
Police in Bali have interviewed 16 people in connection with the kidnapping of a Bulgarian national, George Jordanov, that took place on Jalan Sunset Road on Saturday, February 3, 2018. reports that police have now formally named 6 people as suspects in the crime, 3 of whom are locals, 2 Turkish nationals and 1 Bulgarian in an unsuccessful kidnapping attempt to extort US$20,000. Police say revenge played a part in the failed crime.
The head of the Criminal Division of the Bali Police, Sang Made Mahendra Jaya, said that among the  people now in custody are:  Yusuf Efraim Kiuk alias Ken (29) labeled as the mastermind of the kidnapping; Tihomir Asenov Danailov (35) from Bulgaria and Kemal Kapuci (30) from Turkey who participated in the crime. Another man, Yusten J Kapitan (29), guarded the victim at a remote location. A female accomplice, Deti, is also in police custody together with Kahraman Midis also known as “Hiro” from Turkey.
Police have another ten names of people to serve as witnesses to the crime as it moves towards trial.
Police say the case of kidnapping broke with the Bali police after receiving on February 5th a report from the Bulgarian Ambassador to Indonesia that Bulgarian George Jordanov had been kidnapped by a Turkey national assisted by local citizens in Bali. The Ambassador received proof of the kidnapping from a friend of Jordanov who managed to film the abduction that took place at 7:30 pm on February 3, 2018.
Mahendra Jaya said: “After we received the report from the Bulgarian Ambassador on February 5th at 6:30 pm, it took only two hour for the police to apprehend several of the perpetrators captured on film. The kidnappers demanded US$20,000.”
Police manage to quickly arrest all the people shown in the video and rescue the victim from a boarding house in Jimbaran near the campus of Udayana University. He victim was guarded by one man and was being kept in a room wearing handcuffs.
One of the men under arrest said the motive for the kidnapping was revenge against Jordanov who reportedly assaulted “Hiro” on October 25, 2017 on Jalan Sunset Road in Kuta.
Two of the assailants, a Turk and a Bulgarian, were long-term residents of Bali said to be operating a Turkish Kebab Restaurant on Jalan Sunset Road. The victim, Jordanov, had been vacationing in Bali since November 2, 2017.
